Intelligent Omni-Surfaces: Simultaneous Refraction and Reflection for Full-Dimensional Wireless Communications

چکیده
The development of metasurfaces has unlocked various use cases in wireless communication networks to improve performance by manipulating the propagation environment. Intelligent omni-surface (IOS), an innovative technique this category, is proposed for coverage extension. In contrast widely studied reflective metasurfaces, i.e., intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs), which can only serve receivers located on same side transmitter, IOS achieve full-dimensional communications enabling simultaneous reflection and refraction surface, thus users both sides be served. paper, we provide a comprehensive overview state-of-the-art from perspective communications, with emphasis their design principles, channel modeling, beamforming design, experimental implementation measurements, as well possible applications future cellular networks. We first describe basic concepts introduce corresponding principles different types metasurfaces. Moreover, elaborate reflective-refractive model each element IOS-aided systems. Furthermore, show how three scenarios. particular, present prototype report its measurement results. Finally, outline some potential directions challenges area.

Huygens’ principle can be used to determine various experimentally verifiable and predictable behavior of the path of light through any optical system. However, as seen in the chapter on Light, the Huygens wavefront construction can be become complicated, especially in systems with a large number of optical components. A simpler approach to track the behavior of light is based on the propagatio...
متن کاملFull Duplex Wireless Communications for Cognitive Radio Networks
As a key in cognitive radio networks (CRNs), dynamic spectrum access needs to be carefully designed to minimize the interference and delay to the primary (licensed) users. One of the main challenges in dynamic spectrum access is to determine when the secondary (unlicensed) users can use the spectrum. In particular, when the secondary user is using the spectrum, if the primary user becomes activ...
متن کاملPhD Thesis: Wideband Wireless Full-Duplex transceivers for 5G communications
In recent years, the concept of full-duplex (FD) communications has been the subject of a large attention from the scientific community. Recent advances in both analog and digital parts of radio transceivers offer now the possibility to consider the use of the full-duplex approach for operational systems. Unfortunately, current developments are mainly focused on narrowband systems. The heart of...
متن کاملInband Full-duplex Wireless Communications for Dynamic Spectrum Sharing Systems
Over the last decade, there has been an exponential growth in the wireless demand, driven by an increase in the number of devices, users, and applications. Combined with an increase in the number of connections (due to Internet of things or IoT) and the spike in mobile video, this growth led to a spectrum crisis. To face this problem, various solutions have been proposed, including more cell de...
متن کاملFundamental Properties of Full-Duplex Radio for Secure Wireless Communications
This paper presents a number of fundamental properties of full-duplex radio for secure wireless communication under some simple and practical conditions. In particular, we consider the fields of secrecy capacity of a wireless channel between two single-antenna radios (Alice and Bob) against an unknown number of single-antenna eavesdroppers (Eves) from unknown locations, where Alice and Bob have...
